The MAPIT Alliance is a partnership consisting of key entities in the state of Maryland, including the Center for Global Business at Maryland Smith, Maryland Department of Commerce, the U.S. Commercial Service, and the MD-DC District Export Council. The MAPIT Alliance leads initiatives to help map the export resources that exist in the state and make them more coordinated and accessible to new-to-export and experienced exporters via workshops, webinars, and other resources.

Maryland Global Export Consulting Program
Are you looking to expand your business globally, solve an international business challenge, or get a consultant’s perspective? Here’s your chance to consult with a Smith School MBA or undergraduate student team.
- Student teams provide as many as 10 hours per week of consulting per semester on one consulting project.
- Recommendations are based on project scope, which could include a review of a company’s global strategy.
- Students are advised by our top-rated Smith School faculty, along with the Maryland Department of Commerce, Office of International Investment, and trade subject matter experts.
- Depending on the program chosen, projects may include one week of fieldwork in-country in mid-March to conduct project-relevant research and meet project stakeholders.
- Consulting projects may be aligned with one traditional functional area or cross-functional areas, including data analytics, fintech, blockchain, etc.
- Student teams will provide a set of actionable recommendations at the conclusion of the project.
- Apply for fall by August 1.
- Apply for spring by Sept. 15.
Projects may run September-December or January-May.

As the first academic partner of the Maryland Partners in International Trade (MAPIT) program, the University of Maryland’s Center for Global Business works in partnership with the Maryland Department of Commerce, Office of International Investment and Trade to help raise awareness of existing export promotion programs, facilitate greater access and usage of the state’s programs, and build new globally-focused programs such as the Maryland Global Export Consulting Program, the first piece of the MAPIT portfolio. The Global Export Consulting Program is funded in part by CIBE, a Title VI grant provided by the U.S. Department of Education.
