Curt Grimm, the Charles A. Taff Chair of Economics & Strategy at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, traveled to Canada in June 2018 to deliver a keynote address at “the other” Smith School of Business — Queen’s University’s Stephen J.R. Smith School of Business in Kingston, Ontario. Grimm and former UMD Smith School PhD student Ming-Jer Chen, now an endowed chair at the University of Virginia, were the featured speakers at the Competitive Dynamics Conference.
Finance Students Watch and Learn with Berkshire Shareholders
Since 2006, finance professor David Kass has led students from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business on an annual trek to Omaha, Nebraska, to partake in the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting. This year he and Smith School finance professor Elinda Kiss tried something different. They hosted more than 100 students, faculty and staff for a “Watch & Learn” event on May 5, 2018, at Van Munching Hall.

Center for Global Business Awards Grant to PhD Candidate
The Robert H. Smith School of Business’ Center for Global Business is pleased to announce that Viktoriya Zotova has been awarded $4,000 to support her research. Research Professor and Center for Global Business Academic Director Kislaya Prasad will present Zotova, a PhD candidate in the Department of Accounting and Information Assurance, with the award at the Smith PhD Annual Awards Banquet on May 16, 2018. The award is funded in part by CIBER, a Title VI grant provided by the U.S. Department of Education.

The winning strategy calls for swaying undecided voters with mass media messages – television ads and untargeted digital ads in channels like Twitter – and hitting the ground with grassroots campaigns to mobilize a partisan base to go vote. Lingling Zhang, an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business studied U.S. presidential campaigns for elections from 2004 through 2012.
