UMD Ranked in Top 10 for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education for Sixth Straight Year

For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Maryland (UMD) earned a top 10 ranking in The Princeton Review’s annual survey of top schools for entrepreneurship. In the 2021 rankings released today and featured in the December issue of Entrepreneur magazine, UMD placed No. 6 for undergraduate entrepreneurship education—climbing one spot from last year—and No. 3 among public universities. UMD additionally was listed at No.

Bringing Entrepreneurship Education to the Virgin Islands

Maryland Smith’s Tricia Homer didn’t let a pandemic stop her from bringing entrepreneurship education home to her native U.S. Virgin Islands. In July, Homer, the director of business communication for Smith’s master’s programs and a faculty lecturer, ran a startup bootcamp program for social entrepreneurs. She’s holding a second program in November.

David Quattrone, MBA ’05 and co-founder and chief technology officer of Cvent Inc., a provider of web-based software for meetings and events, learned as an entrepreneur out of college that while the first try isn’t always the best, it does offer important lessons.

In New Role, MBA Student Keeps a Focus on Diversity, Inclusion

Jasmine Snead understands that prioritizing diversity and inclusion can help people “feel more heard,” especially in times of anguish. As vice president of Inclusion and Professional Development of the MBA Association (MBAA), Snead, an FTMBA/MPP student, is currently leading efforts within Maryland Smith’s MBA programs to promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of business school life. “We are all going to encounter someone from a different background than us, and we want to facilitate healthy communication and discourse for when that happens,” Snead said.

Dingman Center Names Three UMD Student Entrepreneurs as Terp Startup Fellows

In fall 2019, the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at Maryland Smith decided to test a hypothesis: If exceptional student founders in our Terp Startup Accelerator continued to receive resources for the following academic year, could we help them bridge the gap and achieve necessary milestones toward commercialization?
