Unsure how to navigate identity and conflict? Want to raise your awareness? Want to build skills to address identity-based conflict? In the interest of providing the campus community with channels of support to navigate identity and conflict in regards to race, gender, sexual orientation, and religion to name a select few legally protected classes, campus experts will offer centering practices to respond to case studies of identity-based conflicts.

Our annual drag makeup workshop is on April 8! Up to 50 students can reserve makeup kits for this event, but anyone in the UMD community may attend the zoom event. This event will be a tutorial led by drag queen Shea Couleé and will feature a red and gold eye look to honor SEE 50th anniversary.

The Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020 reignited a national conversation on racism in America. Though the months that followed saw some progress on antiracism, the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, shows that America’s work is far from done. Join Beverly Daniel Tatum – an established voice on race and author of "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?

How can we honor both racial justice and free speech? Join Bias Incident Support Services (BISS), Office of Student Conduct (OSC), and an engaging panel of experts as we go beyond theory and delve into how to infuse the practice into our daily work. Our panel has a wealth of experience doing exactly that—interacting in online classrooms, engaging community partners around anti-racism, covering stories about marginalization through student journalism, and addressing bias through campus policies—and will welcome your questions.

MICA is bringing back AAPI Check-Ins! This year, these weekly sessions will be peer led. Have lunch or a snack, take a break from studying, pause, process with your community members, and just be. Led by members of the Korean Student Association.

Join the Center for Literary & Comparative Studies for Dr. Christine “Xine” Yao (University College London) in conversation with Professor Lisa Lowe (Yale University). Registration opens two weeks in advance of the event.

In the last year, over 3,800 reports were made to Stop AAPI Hate including the recent murders in Atlanta, majority being women of Asian descent. The surge in violence has continued to disproportionately impact community elders and women. The Asian American Studies Program and the Counseling Center would like to invite UMD staff and faculty to come together and be in community and connect, as violence toward Asians and Asian Americans continues. We will pause to take time to honor the targets of these crimes and process our own reactions.

Join Bias Incident Support Services (BISS) for a restorative circle centering our Asian American Pacific Islander communities. Given the continued and pervasive hate targeting AAPI folx across the country, we want to provide space for community members to process and be affirmed.
