Lessons Beyond Borders: Short-Term Study Abroad 2025

Smith School students participated in short-term study abroad programs across the UAE, U.K., Italy, Thailand, Singapore, Portugal, and Morocco. Led by faculty, these experiences provided firsthand exposure to global business practices, emphasizing finance, technology, sustainability, and international market dynamics.

In partnership with Startup UMD, CGB presents “Market Research for Export: Finding the Right Opportunities,” a webinar featuring Kellie Greene of Harvest Global Trading LLC and Certified Senior Business Advisor at the Onondaga Watertown Small Business Development Center.

Embassy Day Gives Students Unique Opportunities to Learn About Global Business

Smith’s Embassy Day, organized by the Center for Global Business, gave 100 students—from first-years to graduate students—a firsthand look at global business and diplomacy. Visiting two of eight embassies, students engaged with diplomats, explored international trade, and gained insights into global relations.

As part of the Careers Crossing Borders series, the Center for Global Business presents The Trek. Discover exciting career opportunities during a day of site visits to explore global careers at dynamic international companies and organizations in Maryland.

Confirmed visits include EchoStar, the Port of Baltimore, and Mediterranean Shipping Company. An additional visit may be confirmed.

For the First Time, Smith Takes Tech Consulting Across the Pond

Smith’s undergraduate information systems program launched its first study abroad experience, taking students to London for hands-on tech consulting. Students collaborated with companies on analytics and AI projects, networked with industry leaders, and gained real-world experience in global technology and business challenges.

The goal of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education’s nationwide initiative International Education Week (IEW) held every third week of November is to broaden perspectives and highlight opportunities for American students to study abroad and for international students to explore the United States through exchange programs. This year, the theme for IEW was “EXPLORE,” focusing on exploring different opportunities to develop a global view, gain new experiences, and learn about unfamiliar languages and cultures.
