Business leader, Navy veteran and Smith School benefactor Leo Van Munching Jr. ’50 died on Feb. 14, 2016, at his home in Darien, Conn. He was 89. Van Munching Hall, home to the Robert H. Smith School of Business and the School of Public Policy, bears his name.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland announced today a gift of $10 million from the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation to support MBA scholarships, undergraduate leadership programs and facility enhancements for the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Sixteen new PhD students are beginning their academic journey at the Smith School this fall. Hailing from all across the globe and from a variety of professional and academic backgrounds, these new PhDs will be researching alongside Smith's best and brightest minds.
