Areas of Specialization

The Robert H. Smith School of Business offers doctoral degrees in nine areas of specialization within six departments.

Accounting

Offers creative and motivated students the opportunity to push the boundaries of traditional accounting with a variety of research topics in empirical accounting, accounting theory, and financial accounting. Please note that this area of specialization requires their doctoral students to complete the graduate-level microeconomics sequence and econometrics sequence at UMD's Department of Economics. Applicants should have completed the equivalent of three semesters of calculus, a semester of linear algebra, and a semester in differential equations.
