Smith Day

Your Smith. My Smith. Our Smith.

Smith Day is an annual tradition celebrating the strong Smith community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Join the Smith community on Tuesday, November 9, for a day to show what Maryland Smith means to you! We are truly proud to be Smith Terps.

Get Involved with Smith Day

Consider becoming a Smith Day Ambassador and help spread the word about Smith Day. The role is simple, flexible, and fun, and not location-bound (regional and online options available). Smith Day Ambassadors help promote the day and the related activities by:

  • Sharing #UMDSmithProud moments
  • Promoting the Day to classmates and colleagues on campus
  • Hosting an Alumni Activity or Event
  • Gathering co-workers who are Smith alumni for an Activity or Event

So if you are a member of the Smith alumni, student, faculty, or staff communities and a proud Smith Terp, consider volunteering to be a Smith Day Ambassador!

Smith Day Ambassadors

Each year, we need the assistance of alumni to help us reach the entire Smith community! Smith Day ambassadors play a significant role in ensuring alumni, students, faculty, and staff from across the globe are able to participate in Smith Day. The ambassadors can get involved in one or more of the following four ways:

  1. Online: Online ambassadors can help promote and share the event, participate in polls, and share their favorite Smith memories, faculty/staff, photos, etc. Using your personal social media account(s), ambassadors encourage conversations and interactions with members of the Smith community using the hashtag #UMDSmithProud.
  2. On-campus: Campus ambassadors are perfect for Smith faculty, staff and students who will be on the various Smith campuses on Smith Day. These ambassadors should be available to participate in some of the activities. Campus ambassadors can also support the Day by volunteering a block of time (1-3 hours) to assist with activities.
  3. In your town (Alumni only): Are you interested in hosting an alumni activity in your region to celebrate Smith Day? We are looking for alumni interested in serving as volunteers to help organize an activity on the evening of Smith Day in regions with pockets of alumni.
  4. At your employer (Alumni only): Are you working with other Smith Alumni? If so, host an informal gathering of Smith alumni at your company.

For a full description and list of responsibilities, please view the Smith Day info sheet.

In all that you do in preparation for Smith Day, be sure to join the conversation online by using #UMDSmithProud.
