On Wed., March 10, the Smith School and the Maryland Undergraduate Society of Entrepreneurs will host a "Marketplace" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Van Munching Hall's Pownall Grand Atrium. The event showcases student-run businesses and Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship portfolio companies that will make their various products available for purchase to the general university population.

Undergraduates Excel at QUEST’s Annual Brumberger Innovation & Consulting Conference
On December 10, 2009, 300 people packed the University of Maryland's Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center for the Annual Brumberger Innovation & Consulting Conference held by the Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams (QUEST) Honors Fellows Program. Named for 2007 alumnus Matthew Brumberger, whose financial support sustains the conference. This event showcases student consulting projects for corporate and nonprofit clients, faculty, parents and peers.
Maryland Undergrads Place Second in General Motors Marketing Challenge
A team of undergraduates at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, placed second and took home $2,000 in the General Motors “GM&U” Marketing Challenge. The challenge: create an integrated marketing communications plan for GM’s new College Discount Program. Out of the 49 campuses and two rounds of scoring, Maryland was one of three universities selected to travel to Detroit in December 2009 to present at the General Motors headquarters. Syracuse University came in first place, and Drexel came in third.
2009 Winter Commencement
he 2009 Winter Commencement for the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, in the Comcast Center. This semester, 145 undergraduate students, 129 Master of Business Administration students, 1 Executive Master of Business Administration student, and 5 Doctoral students will be graduating from the Smith School. Bob L. Johnson, the chief service officer for Sprint, will be the commencement speaker. Johnson is a University of Maryland alumnus and the co-chair of the Smith School Advisory Board.

Smith Undergrads Make Annual Trek to NYC
Over 100 Smith undergraduate students and several faculty members -- Gary Bulmash, Hugh Turner, Elinda Kiss, and Mary Harms -- recently traveled to New York City for two days of networking with alumni, company visits and sightseeing. Members of the Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA) mingled with over 50 local alumni at a reception in Times Square on Thursday evening.

Finance Fellows Meet and Dine with Industry Professionals
When you think of on-campus dining, you probably envision plastic trays, a long buffet, and an endless supply of chocolate milk. On September 22, 2009, however, undergraduate students in the Robert H. Smith School of Business Finance Fellows program were gathered in Van Munching Hall’s Executive Meeting Room in a different context—a formal networking dinner with finance professionals. In addition to an evening with opportunities to connect with professionals in the finance industry, students were dressed in business formal and treated to a catered sit-down dinner.
