The Smith School Welcomes its Newest Undergraduates with the Ernst & Young Freshman Fellows Orientation Program
College Park, Md. – Aug. 30, 2009 – The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted its first-ever Ernst & Young Freshman Fellows Orientation Program. The company’s generous $250,000 gift to the Smith School in June 2009 created the orientation program and endowment, and produced two days of team-building, top-rate keynote speakers and seminars, and real-life ethics training for the freshmen in attendance.

William E. Mayer to Speak at U-Md. Business School Commencement
College Park, Md. – May 15, 2009 — The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced that William E. Mayer, senior partner of Park Avenue Equity Partners, chairman emeritus of the Aspen Institute and former dean of the Smith School, will deliver the keynote speech at the May 22 graduation ceremony. Mayer will address approximately 1,000 Smith School undergraduate, master and doctoral graduates at the 4 p.m. event at the Comcast Center on the university’s College Park campus.
Smith Community Celebrates Ninth Annual Dean’s Undergraduate Awards Banquet
The Smith community came together on May 7 to celebrate the achievements of top undergraduate students and outstanding Smith faculty members at the ninth annual Dean’s Undergraduate Awards Banquet. More than 300 students, faculty, staff and alumni enjoyed a banquet at the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center. The much-anticipated annual celebration was the cap on the academic year and a final celebration before course finals and commencement.
Smith School's American Marketing Association Chapter Receives National Recognition
For the fifth year in a row, the American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business returned from the International Collegiate AMA Conference with awards. Monisha Tripathi, terpAMA president, accepted the awards at the closing banquet in front of 1,300 students and faculty advisors from throughout the United States and neighboring countries. This year’s conference was held in New Orleans in March 2009.

Smith Undergrads Compete in Deloitte Consulting LLP Case Competition
Only one team could take away top honors at the Deloitte Consulting LLP Case Competition, hosted at the Smith School of Business on Friday, March 6, 2009. Over 65 Maryland undergraduates (including 45 of Smith's own students) participated in the competition, which asked students to advise Vibe Corporation, a server, workstation, and PC provider.
Undergrads Invited to Battle Uncertain Economy with an Edge in Business

Smith Students Win Wake Forest Undergraduate Case Challenge
The Babcock Graduate School of Management hosted the 19th Annual Wake Forest MBA Marketing Summit from February 5-7. But it was Smith's undergraduates who took a starring role, taking home first place at the Undergraduate Case Challenge. Mary Harms, lecturer in marketing, was the faculty mentor for the team.
