Women’s Week at UMD-Smith Opens March 28
Activities to Offer Career-Personal Growth Insights, Networking COLLEGE PARK, Md., March 17, 2016 - Women earn a majority of college degrees at many levels in the United States, but not in business schools. To support business- and career-minded women, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is staging a Women’s Week series of speakers and activities geared to professional growth, Monday-Friday, March 28-April 1 in Van Munching Hall (VMH) on UMD’s College Park campus.

People know about Tiger Woods, who stormed the 1997 Masters Tournament and dominated the PGA Tour for the next several years. “It was a truly seismic moment in the tour,” ESPN sportscaster and University of Maryland alumnus Scott Van Pelt said March 4, 2016, during a daylong symposium on race, social class and professional golf. “Galleries started looking more like America.”
Investing in the Smith Journey
Undergraduate students have access to new programs and opportunities at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business as a result of differential tuition. Funds generated from the policy, adopted in fall 2015, have allowed the school to ramp up its investments in four key areas related to the undergraduate experience and the Smith Journey.
Smith Terps Explore the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry
On Feb. 16, 2016, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted an extraordinary event designed specifically for Smith’s professional community. The inaugural event, dubbed “Exploring the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry,” was highlighted by a fireside chat with Wendy Herrick, Unilever's VP of Supply Chain U.S., followed by a faculty dinner with company representatives, an executive panel, and an enticing networking opportunity for Smith students and alumni.
Invest in the Long Term – Social Enterprise Symposium Highlights
“The Social Enterprise Symposium has become the University of Maryland’s premiere event on social enterprise and social entrepreneurship, and we are dedicated to exploring the connection between economic prosperity and lasting social and environmental change,” said Christine Beckman, director of the Center for Social Value Creation at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, as she welcomed attendees to the Eighth Annual Social Enterprise Symposium (SES). The event was held at the Adele H. Stamp Student Union in College Park, Md., on March 4, 2016.
Global Showcase Highlights International Learning
Students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business have traveled near and far throughout the 2015-16 academic year. From Vietnam to Brazil and numerous countries in between, they are broadening their global mindset, embracing cultural diversity and improving their knowledge of global business practices.

Giving Day is March 3
Giving Day returns to the University of Maryland on Thursday, March 3, giving all members of the Robert H. Smith School of Business community the opportunity to boost their contributions through several hourly contests held across campus. From noon until 2 p.m., the Smith faculty and staff’s donations will be eligible for an extra $3,000 prize to be awarded to the Smith School - if they can donate the most money of any on-campus unit within that timeframe.
Smith Sophomores Visit KPMG for Smith2DC

CES Launches New Hospitality Business Fellows Program
The Center for Excellence in Service at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business is proud to announce the Smith Hospitality Business Fellows (HBF) program. The HBF is the newest addition to the Smith School’s portfolio of undergraduate business fellows programs. Students in the Hospitality Business Fellows program will learn strategic tools and analytical skills they need to succeed as business leaders.
