Smith Seniors Cruise the Potomac

Smith student Philip Peker ’18 writes about the fourth annual “Spirit of Smith Senior Cruise,” hosted by the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, May 7, 2016.

On Saturday, May 7, Smith seniors were whisked away on the “Spirit of Smith Senior Cruise” as a way to culminate the undergraduate student experience at Smith.

The first senior cruise happened four years ago, thanks to initiatives taken by the Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC) together with the Smith Undergraduate Program Office.

Kishore Radhakrishnan, now an alumnus of Smith, spearheaded this project as one of the first members of DSAC. He wanted to recognize all the achievements and accomplishments of the seniors with an informal, “get-away” event that was different from anything Smith had before. The senior cruise invites not only seniors, but also faculty and alumni to eat, dance and mingle as they cruise through the mighty Potomac River.

This year’s cruise was one for the books. “The food was absolutely delicious; I went back for seconds and thirds. It was a really good time with really good people,” says Jessie Xu, a graduating senior at Smith.

The senior cruise is a “great chance to connect with the graduating seniors, (who were freshman when I was a senior in 2013), fellow alumni and faculty. I was very impressed with how DSAC continues to grow with top talent and to see what great things folks are doing after graduating from Smith!” said Kishore, who was among the alumni in attendance this year.

There’s nothing like a majestic cruise to put a bow on a challenging, inspiring, and never to be forgotten undergraduate adventure at Smith.
