Admissions

All first-year applicants admitted to the Robert H. Smith School of Business are automatically considered for invitation to SBLF; there is no separate application for SBLF. Priority consideration is given to students who apply Early Action. Students who are invited to join the SBLF Program will be notified in early February.

Students’ applications are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated Leadership Experience – Showcased through involvement in organizations, teams, community, and/or if the student held any leadership positions.
  • Intellectual Curiosity – Demonstrated through a student’s short-answer questions and personal essay. We look for applications that reflect a student’s personal values, demonstrate self-reflection, leadership, and/or problem-solving capabilities.
  • Overall Strength of Application – We look for students whose applications are exceptional, show a readiness to challenge themselves, learn, grow, and be a part of the campus community.
  • Interest in Business – Indicated business experiences or demonstrated interest on a student’s application is taken into consideration along with the other criteria, but is not a sole determinant of invitation to the SBLF Program.
