CHICAGO (December 12, 2005) - As the nation embraces the integration of health information technology (HIT) to improve patient safety and positive clinical outcomes, tracking current health IT initiatives across the country becomes even more crucial.
The Robert H. Smith School of Business kicked off its Business Ethics Lecture Series on October 6, with a riveting talk on white-collar crime and living on the ethical edge delivered by guest lecturers Alfred and Joan Porro. The Porros spoke of the personal and professional upheaval caused in their lives after they were sentenced to more than 45 months in prison for white-collar crimes.
The Smith School of Business has expanded its Executive MBA (EMBA) program in China to include Shanghai. Smith held a welcome reception for the first Shanghai cohort at the Portman Ritz Carlton in Shanghai on November 17, 2005.
How might Anheuser-Busch cut the disposal cost of wet grain left over from its beer production? Just ask undergraduates Adam Gabai, Alison Horner, Andrew Narod, Ari Rasekh, and Katya Tomarev, who developed solutions to the beer production dilemma as part of the senior practicum portion of the (Quality Enhancement and Teams) QUEST program.
The Smith School's Erich Studer-Ellis, Tyser Teaching Fellow of Management Science and Statistics, received a TIAA-CREF Top Terp Award at the Terps' Boston College basketball game in December 2005. Studer-Ellis was nominated by one of his students for the award, which recognizes someone in education for their outstanding performance.
Robert Isaman '85, vice president, integration at UTC Fire & Security (UTCFS), a division of United Technologies Corporation, addressed a lively audience of Smith School graduates, family members, friends, and Smith faculty and administrators at the Smith School's winter commencement ceremony on Thursday, December 22.
