Shapiro Cited As Influential Author of Organizational Behavior Textbooks

Debra Shapiro, Clarice Smith Professor of Management & Organization at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, is among the top 100 most influential authors in organizational behavior, human resource management, strategy and general management as cited in textbooks. In an article examining authors in these fields — which was recently published the journal Academy of Management Learning and Education — Shapiro is identified as a prolific contributor of scholarly research. 

Out of the 16,289 authors assessed for this study, Shapiro stood out, landing in the top 100 (or top 0.6%). The authors aimed to "offer an expanded conceptualization and measurement of scholarly impact by investigating knowledge transfer to a critical management education constituency: students." To do that, they investigated which sources (peer-reviewed journals, business periodicals), individual items (journal articles, book chapters) and authors are most frequently cited in 38 widely-used organizational behavior, human resource management, strategic management and general management undergraduate-level textbooks.
