Poets & Quants Spotlights Smith’s Victor Su Among ‘MBAs to Watch’

Wei-Chi (Victor) Su, dual MBA/MS in Marketing Analytics student at UMD Smith, graduating December 2025, is named a Poets & Quants MBA to Watch. A former dancer turned aspiring product manager, he’s praised for leadership, curiosity, and collaboration.

Wei-Chi (Victor) Su, a dual MBA and MS in Marketing Analytics student preparing to graduate this December from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, is featured among his global peers as a Class of 2025 MBA to Watch by Poets & Quants.

Su, who has worked as a professional dancer and commercial actor in Taiwan and is now focused on product management, cited as his favorite MBA course, “Managerial Economics and Public Policy” taught by Associate Professor of Logistics, Business and Public Policy Rachelle Sampson. “It demands both quantitative and critical thinking skills. And understanding the plethora of concepts in the span of seven short weeks was definitely a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed. The course offered practical implications, and I really liked how it shaped us future business leaders in making managerial decisions,” says Su, whose Smith experience has included serving as MBA Association chapter president.

That leadership role is indicative, according to Poets & Quants, as to ‘What makes an MBA to Watch’: “…Their classmates and faculty describe them as being the pillars of their classes, the role models who act as coaches and champions. Quick with a smile and a kind word, no gesture is too small and no problem too big for the MBAs to Watch. They are the go-getters who persistently pursue growth – and have fun along the way. And they are the constants their classmates can count on to deliver.”

Clinical Professor of Marketing Mary Beth Furst further connects those qualities to Su: “Victor is a connector – someone who strives to build relationships across backgrounds, experiences and goals. He looks for areas of commonality to start the conversation and encourages dialogue to uncover opportunities for diverse perspectives to be shared.”

Su, likewise, credits Furst: “Her ‘Brand Management’ class definitely is one of my highlights in my time at Smith. She structures her class with plenty of active discussions, which allowed everyone to engage each other with nuance perspective and innovative ideas.”

Su also credits Smith’s AI integration: “The [Foundations in AI] course offered important concepts that solidified my understanding of AI and the 'AI in Business Strategy' course built upon that in a business environment. I especially enjoyed the final project, which is a blue-sky business proposal to incorporate generative AI in an industry of our choice.”
