CROWN Day Photographs

July 3 is the second annual National CROWN Day, which was created in celebration and support of the CROWN Act (“Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair”), a law that prohibits discrimination based on hairstyle and hair texture which has been passed in 10 states, including Maryland.

We plan to celebrate natural hair on CROWN Day as a show of support for anti-discrimination legislation. We're looking for faculty, students, and staff to stop by campus next week for a photo session. Next Tuesday, June 22 between 10 a.m. - noon, University photographer Stephanie Cordle will be taking individual headshots to spotlight and celebrate all forms of natural hair. Photos will be used on social media and in a photo carousel accompanying a Maryland Today story. Participants will also have the option of doing a brief phone interview with Maryland Today. Folx of all genders are welcome to participate! Contact Natifia Mullings at mullings@umd.edu to participate.
