The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business faculty shapes future leaders in classrooms and drives global impact through groundbreaking research. Recently, 21 professors were ranked among the top 2% most-cited scholars worldwide by Elsevier. Explore their influential contributions elevating knowledge and inspiring the next generation of business leaders.

With the start of the spring 2024 semester comes new titles and positions for faculty members at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Balaji Padmanabhan is among the earliest professors to bring machine learning into an MBA program. Sining Song’s research explores environmental-to-fintech-related factors in supply chain sustainability. And Agustin Hurtado recently analyzed 87 million minority-borrower accounts in a study showing minority bank ownership reduces information frictions and improves credit allocations.

Anil K. Gupta, Michael D. Dingman Chair in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has received the 2023 CK Prahalad Award for Scholarly Impact on Practice from the Strategic Management Society (SMS).

Serguey Braguinsky, an associate professor in management and organization at the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business, was selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for 2023-2024 for Japan on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.

Debra Shapiro, the Clarice Smith Professor of Management & Organization at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, was selected to receive the International Association for Conflict Management’s (IACM) Lifetime Achievement Award.

Smith chronicles and celebrates this distinction at the end of each academic year by honoring its outstanding faculty and staff members with awards of excellence.

Through courses and workshops, Sarah Wolek ’01 teaches self-leadership and flourishing. The Smith School faculty member helps students work toward full and authentic lives informed by purpose, community, nature and prosperity. As a newly appointed member of Maryland’s House of Delegates, she hopes to do something similar for her constituents in District 16 and residents across the state.

Rajshree Agarwal was recognized for her “insights into how innovation and entrepreneurship impact the evolution of industries, firms, and individuals,” as part of the recent 2023 Maryland Research Excellence Celebration.
