Noted Campbell's Soup VP Kicks Off Executive Speaker Series Irene Chang Britt Encourages Smith MBAs to Know Yourself

Irene Chang Britt, the VP and general manager of Campbell Soups Sauces and Beverages division, spoke to more than 100 students on March 2, 2007, encouraging each to 'know yourself' to become a better leader. A vibrant speaker, Britt recounted the challenges she's faced as a woman, a minority, a foreigner, an entrepreneur, and a corporate professional, and how she turned those challenges into opportunities. Included in her speech were her 10 pillars of leadership.

Smith MBA Venture Capital Investment Competition

The Smith Entrepreneurship Club is pleased to announce the Venture Capital Investment Competition on February 14-16, 2007 at the Smith School of Business. In the competition, MBA students judge the business plans and pitches of local start-up companies currently seeking funding, choose a company in which to invest, and produce a term sheet for the investment. In turn, the MBA students are judged by real life venture capitalists.

Smith School Students Ring Bell to Open NYSE

College Park, Md. January 19, 2007 - A group of Robert H. Smith School of Business undergraduate and MBA students had the honor of ringing the bell to open trading on the New York Stock Exchange this morning. The students manage the Smith Schools two investment funds the Mayer Fund and the Lemma Senbet Fund and are in New York for an educational trip to meet with financial professionals.

Emission Reductions, Renewable Energy, and Energy Efficiency The Triple Convergence

Peter C. Fusaro, one of the world's leading experts on energy and environmental markets, spoke at the Smith School of Business on December 5, 2006. Fusaro is the founder of Global Change Associates and the CEO of Energy & Environment Capital Management, LLC. He is also a frequent consultant to governments and the author of What Went Wrong at Enron. Fusaro spoke on the latest trends in energy and environmental markets, including recent policy and technological developments. Fusaro's talk was organized by the Smith chapter of Net Impact and by the Smith MBA Finance Association.

Smith to Host 2007 National Women MBA Conference

Planning has already gotten under way as the Robert H. Smith School of Business gets ready to host the 2007 National Women MBA Conference next fall. Smith was awarded the event at this years conference which was hosted by the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. Every year the privilege of hosting this event is passed from one business school to another, and Smith is honored to be given the opportunity to be the next site of this influential event.

Carly Fiorina's New Memoir Tops Must-Read List at Smith

"I started out as a secretary, and success was never obvious," said Carly Fiorina, former CEO of HP and author of the new book Tough Choices: A Memoir at a book signing and Robert H. Smith School of Business alumni networking event on November 13, 2006. "I wanted to tell the story of business the way I experienced it. I wrote it myself because I wanted it to be authentic," she said, explaining that she didn't use a ghostwriter or co-writer. The book is on the New York Times Best-Seller List.
