Smith Welcomes Full-time MBA Class of 2009

Members of the new full-time MBA class kicked off their Smith School experience Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, the first day of a weeklong orientation to introduce them to Smith and the programs they'll be immersed in for the next two years, as well as provide a chance to meet faculty, staff and each other.

Southwest Campus Gateway Construction Outside VMH

In July 2007 fences went up outside the main entrance to Van Munching Hall as construction of the university's Southwest Campus Gateway began. Lee Comstock, director of operations at Smith, says, "This Gateway will serve as the main pedestrian entrance to the campus on the south side. As part of this construction, a clock tower will be constructed." Additional plantings are also planned and this effort should address the pooling of water that currently occurs in the Mowatt Lane Parking Garage, adds Comstock.

University of Maryland Business School Appoints New Senior Associate Dean

College Park, MD July 18, 2007 - The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced that Anand Anandalingam, Ralph J. Tyser Professor of Management Sciences, has been appointed as the school's senior associate dean. In this role, he will be responsible for working closely with faculty and staff to support Smiths overall program, research and curriculum development. The three-year appointment is effective July 1, 2007. Arjang Assad, outgoing senior associate dean, has been named the Deans Professor for Extraordinary Service.

Smith School Community Mourns Loss of Board Member Mike Corvino

The University of Maryland community is mourning the loss of Mike Corvino, president of JanSport and a valued member of the Board of Visitors at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Corvino was killed in a car accident on Saturday, July 14, 2007. As a board member, Corvino was very involved and enthusiastic about his consultative role with the school. Most recently, he helped bring JanSport's founder, Skip Yowell, to the Smith CEO Entrepreneurship Conference, which was held in April.
