NEWS RELEASE: June 1, 2009 University of Maryland Business School Appoints Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship Director of Investments

College Park, Md. – June 1, 2009 — The Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced Craig Dye has joined the center as director of investments. In his new position, Dye will be leading the continued growth of the Dingman Center’s Capital Access Network, a successful angel investment group focused on funding early-stage deals up to $1.5 million.

The Robert H Smith School of Business 29th Annual Doctoral Awards Banquet, honoring graduating doctoral students.

Smith Community Celebrates Ninth Annual Dean’s Undergraduate Awards Banquet

The Smith community came together on May 7 to celebrate the achievements of top undergraduate students and outstanding Smith faculty members at the ninth annual Dean’s Undergraduate Awards Banquet. More than 300 students, faculty, staff and alumni enjoyed a banquet at the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center. The much-anticipated annual celebration was the cap on the academic year and a final celebration before course finals and commencement.

Support Dress for Success — Smith Women Groups Sponsor Business Clothes Drive

The University of Maryland's Smith Association of Women MBAs (SAWMBA) and the undergraduate Smith School Women’s Society are sponsoring a "Dress for Success" women's business clothes drive, April 22-23, 2009 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pownall Grand Atrium of Van Munching Hall). Dress for Success is a not-for-profit organization that empowers women back into the workforce. Gentlemen are encouraged to participate by asking for clothing donations from their female significant others, relatives and friends.

Smith Students Get a Job-Search Boost from the Office of Career Management

In tough economic times, jobs can be hard to come by. It’s a serious challenge for graduating students, one that the Smith School’s Office of Career Management (OCM) is eager to help them surmount. Smith Network and Connect Week, held February 23 through 27, gave students the opportunity to meet employers, brush up on their job-seeeking skills and widen their horizons as they tackle the challenges of a tight job market. Government, corporate and non-profit recruiters met and mingled with students, while OCM staff gave invaluable resume and job-search tips.

University of Maryland Business School Connects Alumni with Career Options

Smith School of Business is bolstering its alumni career services and has added a dedicated alumni career coach and New York-based resources to help business managers hard-hit by the economic downturn. The initiative, dubbed “Smith Connects,” is geared to provide help with job searches and networking while strengthening the sense of community among alumni confronted with uncertainty in the current economic climate.

Monte Carlo Night: The Big Winner Is: Smith!

Every year, the Smith community gathers at Monte Carlo Night to celebrate everything Smith. This year, Monte Carlo night took place on Saturday February 7, 2009 at the Galleria at Lafayette Center in Washington D.C. For the first time, the event was expanded to include alumni, part-time, full-time, and executive MBA students.
