University of Maryland President Appoints Business School Associate Dean Gerald Suarez to Professor of the Practice

College Park, Md. – Nov. 23, 2009 – The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced that university President C.D. Mote has appointed J. Gerald Suarez, associate dean of external strategy, to Professor of the Practice in Systems Thinking and Design.

Van Munching Hall Goes Green

The Robert H Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, is going green! This semester, Dean G. “Anand” Anandalingam has agreed to participate in the new Energywi$e UM program at the University of Maryland, College Park, in an effort to promote energy conservation. Van Munching Hall, the location of the Smith School, is one of only three academic buildings (Glenn Martin Hall and the Chesapeake Building) on the campus to participate in this program.

Smith Alumna Lacey Brauer Catches ‘Lucky Break’ on Wheel of Fortune

Lacey Brauer, a 2009 alumna from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University Maryland, caught her “lucky break” and won big on ABC’sWheel of Fortune. Brauer, 22, attended the Smith School for a Marketing degree, with a concentration in Sports Management as a part of the Sports Management Fellows Program. She appeared on the popular TV game show on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009.

The annual “Diversity at Smith” event was held at University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business on November 7, 2009. The main aim of the event was to provide prospective MBA candidates the opportunity to experience the Smith MBA. NYU Takes Top Prize in Third Annual University of Maryland M&A Competition

College Park, Md. – October 26, 2009 – The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced the winners of its third annual Mergers & Acquisitions Competition, held October 22-23. The event, organized by Smith’s MBA Finance Association, challenged 10 teams of MBA students from leading business schools to craft and present M&A pitches to a panel of executive and faculty judges. The student team from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University won the $5,000 first prize.
