Congratulations to Winners of the Smith Photo Contest

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is proud to announce the winners of the Smith Photo Contest. More than 500 submissions were received this spring and winners were selected in six categories – landscape, portrait, campus, architectural, action, global – by a combination of online voting and a panel of expert judges. The photos were judged using the following criteria: creativity, appeal, composition/technical quality, and overall impact.

Ken White Named Associate Dean

Ken White, PhD, has been named associate dean of MBA & MS programs at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. He began his new role on August 8, 2012. White, who has over 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, spent the last two years as assistant dean of marketing communications at the Smith School and was acting assistant dean of development and alumni relations for a year. He has been a member of the School’s senior leadership team since his arrival.

Smith School Welcomes New MBA Students

The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland is happy to welcome its newest class of full-time MBA students. The two-week long orientation kicked off on August 13, 2012, in Van Munching Hall with a week full of activities. Each activity – welcome speeches from Smith deans, the ropes course, team-building activities, icebreaker sessions, evening socials, and more – was designed to help the 114 new students better acquaint themselves with the Smith School, the College Park area, and their fellow classmates.  

UMD’s Smith School Graduates Eleventh Executive MBA Cohort in College Park

On July 28, 2012, 41 executives from EMBA Cohort 11 celebrated the end of their 19-month journey at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. More than 350 family members, friends and members of the Smith School community joined together at the university’s Samuel Riggs Alumni Center for a recognition ceremony to honor their accomplishments.

Smith Welcomes New MS Students

In a week filled with activities, MS students at the Robert H. Smith School of Business were introduced to both life at Smith and in the United States. From Wednesday, Aug. 15, to Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, students came from all over to attend the new MS student orientation before starting their school year in College Park.

Student Participates in 4k for Cancer

While many students spend their summers as interns in their field of interest, Chelsea DeBernardis decided to spend hers biking —across the United States. A junior at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, she is participating in the 4k for Cancer bike ride, during which she’ll spend 70 days riding more than 4,000 miles from Baltimore, Md., to Seattle, Wash.
