PepsiCo Slingshots Students into Full-time MBA Program

Nearly 100 full-time MBA students tackled their first real-world business challenge Aug. 23-25, 2017, during the third annual MBA Orientation Live Case Competition at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. “This competition will slingshot you into your MBA program,” said Smith School professor Neta Moye, who designed the experiential learning activity with representatives from PepsiCo. “It will ratchet up your learning curve.”

New Specialty Master's Class Diverse in Many Ways

More than 550 specialty master's, including Master of Science, students representing 21 countries came together recently for orientation activities at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Freshmen Volunteer at A Wider Circle

For 22 years, freshmen in the living-learning College Park Scholars program have spent their first full day at the University of Maryland with a day of community service at off-campus sites. On Friday, August 25, 2017, 70 students in the Business, Society and the Economy (BSE) program (one of the 12 thematic two-year programs) went to A Wider Circle, a non-profit organization in Silver Spring, Md., that provides basic need items to individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness.

GPS Tracker Wins Pitch Competition

A team of aspiring entrepreneurs won the 2017 SELF Business Pitch Competition with Spot, a tiny GPS tracker that users can attach to car keys, smartphones or other items they don’t want to lose. “Our technology allows you to track certain items through GPS on our app and website,” presenters told a panel of judges at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. “What sets it apart is its size. Spot is the smallest GPS tracker to date, and in the form of essentially a sticker, you can put it on anything.”

High School Girls Invest in Learning

Rachel Hacker, a rising high school sophomore from Fort Wayne, Ind., never saw college in her future. But her perspective changed following a residency program July 16-21, 2017, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
