Juniors Take the Spotlight at Annual QUEST Conference
For the first time, junior students in the Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams (QUEST) honors program had the chance to show off their quality management, innovation and teamwork skills to a crowd of over 300 people at the spring QUEST conference hosted at the Riggs Alumni Center on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
Smith Students Offer Solutions in West Baltimore
West Baltimore has been at the epicenter of upheaval in a city rocked by recent protests and riots following the death of Freddie Gray in police custody. In the aftermath, lawmakers and local officials are calling for ways to effect change in the low-income, marginalized community. An innovative experiential learning practicum piloted by the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, School of Social Work, and Carey School of Law offers some potential solutions.
Smith Showcases Global Initiatives
Everything that is global at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business was on colorful display outside of Van Munching Hall on May 7, 2015, for the first Smith Global Showcase organized by the Office of Global Initiatives (OGI). Hundreds of students, staff and faculty gathered around the table displays to share stories from their undergraduate study abroad experiences this past year, while dozens more detailed the global learning they enjoyed here in College Park.
CHIDS Announces Student Finalists for Maryland Innovate 4 Health Challenge

Finance Undergrads Compete in Annual Wikler Case Competition
Five teams of undergraduate finance students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business participated in the 12th Annual Joseph M. Wikler Finance Case Competition on Friday, April 24, 2015. Students presented their solutions on a Reliance Communications case, a company overloaded with debt that needed to find financing to continue operations. This year, the competition was sponsored by Madeline Wikler, continuing the tradition started by her late husband Joe Wikler over a decade ago.
Smith School VITA Program Files for Success
As tax season comes to a close, the new Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) chapter at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business celebrated their first season of operation, and almost 100 returns filed successfully. The VITA program was established by site coordinator Samuel Handwerger and professor Martin Loeb, with help from Wei Wu ’13 and 12 core student volunteers.

Smith School of Business partnered with SECU, a credit union in Maryland, to host the Real Life Real Talk conference on Friday, April 17, 2015.
