Smith School thought leadership and research is prominently featured in the World Economic Forum’s annual Global Information Technology Report, released on April 9, 2008. Within the report Sandor Boyson, co-director of the Supply Chain Management Center at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, and co-author David Boyer, a research scientist with Avaya Labs, offer a blueprint for nations to better leverage emerging communications capabilities and technologies to spur economic and social development.

The Robert H. Smith School of Business community is mourning the loss of Dr. Brian Shaffer, a Tyser Teaching Fellow in the Logistics, Business and Public Policy department. Dr. Shaffer was killed in an automobile accident in West Virginia on Saturday, April 5.

Michael Fu, professor of management science, and Lawrence Bodin, professor emeritus of management science, have been named as fellows for 2008 by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). This singular honor, awarded to about 2 percent of the organizations 11,000 members, has now been held by six members of the Smith Schools decision and information technologies department.

March 27, 2007 - Teams from top business schools throughout the United States, Europe and Asia competed today in the first-ever Global Supply Chain Competition, a revolutionary real-time simulation developed by researchers at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Competition sponsor Sun Microsystems, Inc., donated prizes and powerful servers to host the Web-based game, in which players competed virtually from their home campuses to manage the most efficient supply chain.

Smith School of Business is posting a last call for nominations for the schools 2007 Smith Leadership and Excellence Awards by the Dec. 14 deadline for submission. The annual awards, which pay tribute to business leaders and organizations that have made a significant and positive impact in the mid-Atlantic region, will be presented in four categories: Business Excellence, Leaders for the Digital Economy, Leadership Excellence, and Public Excellence.

The Smith School is pleased to announce the Top 15 % Teaching Award recipients for 2005-06. The Top 15% Teaching Awards are based on faculty performance during the previous academic year, consisting of fall semester, winter semester, spring semester, and summer semester sessions I and II, in that order.
