Before classes even began at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business in fall 2018, senior Julian Colicchio could breathe easy, knowing he already has a job lined up when he graduates. Colicchio, a double major in finance and operations management business analytics, received an offer from Johnson & Johnson after a summer internship with the medical device, pharmaceutical and consumer products company.
Fighting Food Waste and Hunger
Entrepreneur Evan Lutz ’14 hates to see food go to waste. So in 2014 during his senior year at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, he co-founded Hungry Harvest from his dorm basement in College Park, Md. “We’re a produce delivery service on a mission to reduce food waste in the United States,” Lutz says. Already the company has spread from Philadelphia to South Florida — while the waitlist of potential new customers has swelled into the 10s of thousands in other parts of the country.

Brandon Lucas was the kid who tinkered around the house, trying to fix or build something to see how things worked. It was a Java class in high school that sparked his interest in computer science. But when he started at the University of Maryland, he recognized that his interest in people and leadership could open more opportunities. So he decided to focus on information systems and management at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
