Record Year for University of Maryland’s Dingman Center Angels

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The end of 2011 marked the close of an active year for the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and its Dingman Center Angels investor network. In the past year, members invested in eight regional companies, making 2011 the network’s most active year since its founding in 2004. Investments included Brazen Careerist, CirrusWorks, Nexercise, SevaCall, Spinnakr, Spotflux, Veenome, and YouEye.

Smith Students Prepare for 7th Annual China Business Plan Competition

The Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is gearing up to host the seventh annual China Business Plan Competition in Beijing on Jan. 5, 2012. Teams of up to four Smith MBA students will compete against their counterparts in China for $10,000 in cash prizes for the best business plan pitch.

Smith School of Business has renamed the Capital Access Network, its prominent angel investor network, to the Dingman Center Angels.  The group is one of the most active in the Washington-Baltimore region and continues to fuel startups, in the past year alone increasing membership by more than 30 percent and investing in six seed stage companies.

Student entrepreneurship highlighted at BB&T Invitational and Cupid’s Cup

Yellow Dingman Dollars filled the cups and bins on eager entrepreneurs’ tables at the 4th Annual BB&T Invitational on April 1. Resembling the brightly colored currency used in Monopoly, each yellow piece of paper counted as a vote for an attendee’s favorite start-up to be tallied up and awarded at the6th Annual Cupid’s Cup competition later that afternoon.
