Undergrads Compete in KPMG Excel Competition

On April 12, 2017, three teams of undergraduates at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business competed in the 2017 KPMG Excel Competition at the annual TechFest event. The event is organized by the school’s department of decisions, operations and information technologies and two student clubs: BITS and iTBT.

The teams analyzed Yelp review data for all restaurants in College Park to generate business insights and present their findings and recommendations on opening a new restaurant in College Park to the KPMG judges. Students who are in BMGT301 were invited to participate in the competition.

Special thanks to KPMG and congratulations to all students who participated in the event and the following winners:

  • First prize ($450):  Michael Koscinski and Derek Xiao
  • Second prize ($300): Abbey Cerciello, Allyson Convers and Angelina Lyubimova
  • Third prize ($250): An Xu, William Lu and Joon Hwang
