Masters Students Participate in LeaderShape Catalyst Program

Masters Students Participate in LeaderShape Catalyst Program

On February 5, 2016, student club officers of the Smith Master Student Association (SMSA) and affiliated clubs participated in a day-long LeaderShape Catalyst session at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. LeaderShape is a national organization specializing in higher education leadership development programs. The program focuses on helping participants explore what it means to “take your own path” through a series interactive discussions and group work. Students learned how to identify their unique strengths and how to apply those strengths to make strong contributions to the clubs they lead, and other groups and organizations they care about.

“I believe this Catalyst leadership training program has inspired me to speak with my inner self and find my leadership style proactively. The invaluable process of self-exploration helped me understand my quality and character, and made me feel more courageous and confident in planning to manage future problems in the business world,” said Bo Jin, a master of science in accounting candidate and vice president of finance for SMSA.

The session was facilitated by LeaderShape faculty member Melissa Rocco, who is also a doctoral student in the student affairs program at the University of Maryland. Photos from the day are posted online.
