Faculty Awards

Fourteen faculty teams at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business have been awarded three-year grants from the school for research projects that address the world’s grand challenges and reimagine learning in support of the University of Maryland’s vision and the Smith School’s strategic plan.

Robert H. Smith School of Business faculty members are engaged in three projects selected by the University of Maryland for Grand Challenges grants supporting research “to spur world-changing, interdisciplinary research and solutions."

Since arriving at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business in 2008, Rebecca Hann has remained steadfast in her mission to positively impact her students and the world with her research. Those efforts recently earned her the University of Maryland Distinguished Scholar-Teacher award.

Smith Chair of Management Science Michael Fu, was presented with the George E. Kimball Medal for recognition of distinguished service to the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the operations research profession and that of management sciences.

Maryland Smith finance professor Lemma W. Senbet received the Ethiopian Crown’s Victory of Adwa Medal for his contributions to his native country. Senbet, an expert and leader in economic policy in Africa, is the William E.

Amna Kirmani, the Ralph J. Tyser Professor of Marketing at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, was named a 2022 fellow of the Society for Consumer Psychology. Her appointment was announced at the academic and practitioner group’s annual conference on March 4.

Maryland Smith finance professor Clifford Rossi has been selected by the Food and Drug Administration to serve on its Pharmaceutical Science and Clinical Pharmacol

A study co-led by Maryland Smith’s Ritu Agarwal to improve clinical decision making in the treatment of neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome has been selected among projects for $3 million in new grants through the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower) to address “critical areas of paramount importance to the state and the nation.”

Maryland Smith’s Pat McNamee has been reappointed to the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board, for a second five-year term, which began on Jan. 1 of this year.
