Sixteenth Annual Forum on Financial Information Systems and Cybersecurity: A Public Policy Perspective

About 60 cyber and policy experts representing academia, business and government will participate in the 16th annual Forum on Financial Information Systems and Cybersecurity: A Public Policy Perspective, from 9 a.m.-4:20 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, in Van Munching Hall, Room 1412 at the University of Maryland, College Park. The event is co-hosted by Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business and School of Public Policy.

Presenters include Col. Andrew Hall, director of the Army Cyber Institute at West Point and a Maryland Smith PhD graduate in management science and operations management, and Ira H. Shapiro Memorial Lecture speaker Rashad Abdel-Khalid, professor and directorof International Education and Research at the University of Illinois.

  • 1:30-2:05 p.m. - "Quantitative Issues in Cyber Insurance" by Fariborz Farahmand, senior research engineer, Georgia Institute of Technology
  • 2:05-2:35 p.m. – “Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: Equifax Data Breach Settlement” by Jenelle Dennis, senior litigation counsel, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and Richa Dasgupta, assistant litigation deputy, CFPB
  • 2:35-3:10 p.m. -  “Crypto, FinTech and Financial Security” by John Bagby, professor emeritus, College of Information Sciences and Technology, Penn State University
  • 3:30-4:10 p.m. - Ira H. Shapiro Memorial Lecture: “Rich Soft Spots for Breaching Security” by Rashad Abdel-Khalik, professor and director of international education and research, University of Illinois

The forum is organized by Lawrence A. Gordon, EY Alumni Professor of Managerial Accounting and Information Assurance; Martin Loeb, professor of accounting and information assurance and a Deloitte & Touche Faculty Fellow; and William Lucyshyn, research professor and the director of research at the Center for Public Policy and Private Enterprise.
