It’s that time of year again. The annual March Madness games are here, and anyone watching the men’s NCAA tournament last Monday knows that the Maryland Terrapins have (unfortunatley) been eliminated from the competition.
Coming into the tournament as a 10 seed, the Terps managed an upset against the 8th-seeded University of Connecticut to make it into the second round of the tournament. But the tracks stopped there when they played against 2nd-seed Alabama, who ultimately defeated the Terps, 96-77. It may have seemed like Maryland's chance of making it to the finals stopped there but, the Terps weren’t quite done with this basketball tournament.
Just two days after the men’s team defeat, on the women’s side of the NCAA, the women’s Terps team played against the same Alabama Crimson Tides that had bested the men’s team, but this time they went on to win with a dominating 100-64.
The women’s basketball team ended their season with an impressive 26-3 overall record. Coached by Brenda Frese, the woman's team made it to the Sweet Sixteen before ultimately losing to Texas in a close 64-61. However, while the Terps season may be done this year, we've got a lot to look forward to the future.
