Smith MBAs Learn About Socially Responsible Investing at Calvert

On Friday, Nov. 30, a group of first- and second-year Smith MBA students traveled to the headquarters of the investment firm Calvert in Bethesda, Md., to learn about the Calvert Fund, a socially responsible mutual fund. This field trip dubbed The Calvert Trek was organized by the Smith Net Impact Club, whose mission is to make a positive impact on society by building a community of leaders who use business to improve the world.

Smiths Commitment to Diversity Highlighted at Kaleidoscope Event

On Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, the Smith School hosted its Sixth Annual Kaleidoscope: Women & Diversity at Smith event. Kaleidoscope provided a unique opportunity to expose prospective members of underrepresented groups to the rich diversity of the Smith MBA community and culture, and experience at large. The event was co-hosted by the school's Black MBA Association, the Hispanic MBA Association, the Smith Association of Women MBAs, and the Smith Pride Alliance.

A group of first- and second-year Smith MBA students traveled to the New York City area on the Finance Associations annual Wall Street Trek, Nov. 8-9, 2007. The trip is designed to allow Smith Students interested in pursuing careers in capital markets to attend discussion and informational sessions with Wall Street professionals. The goal is to expose the students to a variety of jobs inside the industry and give them the opportunity to network with Smith alumni who are currently employed in capital markets.

Smith School Wins Cornell MBA Stock Pitch Competition

A three-person team from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business has captured the title and a $3,000 prize at the sixth annual MBA Stock Pitch Competition that took place at the Parker Center for Investment Research at the Johnson School at Cornell University on November 2, 2007.

Smith Team Advances to Finals in National Association of Women MBAs Conference Case Competition

The Smith School team made it to the final round of the First Annual National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA) Case Competition. Team "The Smiths," consisting of second-year MBA students Liz Slobasky, Anne Zeeman and Lyubov Luzhanova and first-years Kristi Zobel and Varongnard Trongkongsin, will be presenting their solution to the case during the final round of competition; which will be held in Van Munching Hall on Nov. 3, 3:30-6:30 p.m., as part of the National Association of Women MBAs Conference, which is being hosted by the Robert H. Smith School of Business, Nov. 2-3, 2007.

Top Female Executives, MBAs and Corporate Recruiters to Gather at University of Maryland for National Conference for Women in Business

Columbia Business School Takes Top Prize in University of Maryland M&A Competition

College Park, Md. October 16, 2007 - The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced the winners of its first Mergers & Acquisitions Competition, held October 11-12. The event, organized by Smiths MBA Finance Association, challenged teams of MBA students from leading business schools to create and deliver M&A pitches to a panel of executives from Wall Street firms including Credit Suisse and Lehman Brothers. Columbia Business School won first prize, $5,000.
