Giving Day – the University of Maryland’s 24-hour fundraising event – is nearly here. This year’s event is on March 3. At the Robert H. Smith School of Business, we are inviting students, faculty, staff, parents, friends and alumni to join the university’s largest annual day of giving, celebrating our common bond – our sense of belonging to the wider Terp community.

Restaurateurs and Food Columnist Tim Carman to Discuss Strategies for Survival in a Maryland Smith-Hosted Webinar As restaurants have been particularly challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has organized an online panel discussion with restaurateurs who will discuss how they have survived thus far and what others might learn from those experiences. The free event, “Strategies for Survival: How Local Restaurants are Adapting in the Face of COVID,” is 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021.

Maryland Smith Welcomes New Students for Fall 2020

Maryland Smith welcomed new students to school for the fall 2020 semester with a full lineup of orientation activities, held virtually via Zoom this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. All orientation programs offered an introduction to Smith School leaders and the Smith community. They also highlighted Smith’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Promise, the school’s pledge to engage in critical conversations to make everyone feel represented, heard and included at Maryland Smith.

How an Alum Landed a New Job, With Help from the Alumni Association

Alexander Mikhailovsky ’18 didn’t have much time to celebrate his graduation from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Within days of receiving his finance degree, the U.S. Army Reservist headed to Afghanistan to provide logistics support for the military. “I volunteered to be deployed,” Mikhailovsky said. “I supported combat operations and coordinated various types of equipment. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot.” When he returned to the United States in 2019, he faced a new mission: finding a job.

He watched as his wife, an internal medicine resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and her colleagues put in long, intense hours in the ICU.
