2012–13 Krowe Award Winners
The Smith School established the Krowe Teaching Excellence Awards to recognize those who have demonstrated superior teaching skills. The Smith School Teaching Enhancement Committee appoints an Ad Hoc Committee to recommend awardees based on nominations from students, faculty, and alumni. The awardees for 2012-2013 are as follows: Krowe Awards Ritu Agarwal (DO&IT) Recognized for excellent teaching ratings in various classes including MBA, PhD, EMBA, and Gemstone courses.
Smith Undergrad Helps Feed Homeless
It was while writing a paper for his freshman English 101 class that Evan Ponchick, a College Park Scholars Business, Society, and the Economy alumnus, came up with an initiative that would help feed the homeless and save the university money. Now a junior, Ponchick has watched his vision turn into a reality.

U.S. Small Business Owners to Add 3.8M Jobs in 2011, According to Small Business Success Index
College Park, Md. — March 14, 2011 — U.S. small business owners say they plan to add nearly 3.8 million jobs this year, according to the latest Small Business Success Index, released by the Center for Excellence in Service at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and partner Network Solutions LLC. The semiannual index surveys small business owners to measure the overall health of their businesses and understand how they are using technology.
Smith School MBAs Win ACG Cup Case Competition
Another case competition – another honor for University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. This time a team of second-year MBA students participated in the ACG Cup Case Competition and was declared winner, impressing the judges with their analysis of case study and presentation skills, in February 2011.
University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business Creates New Framework for Networks Sharing Electronic Medical Records
College Park, Md. – March 8, 2011 – The Center for Health Information and Decision Systems (CHIDS) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has developed a new framework to help states and the District of Columbia create self-sustaining and effective networks for the exchange of electronic health records. The center assessed the DC Regional Health Information Organization (DC RHIO), the District’s primary health information exchange (HIE).
