The Center for Financial Policy held its spring roundtable, “Revitalizing the U.S. Mortgage Market” on May 24, which explored the issues leading to the conservatorship of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The roundtable provided an opportunity for exchange of views on the diagnosis and policy reforms of the government sponsored enterprises (GSEs). The panelists included leading policy and academic experts, and the keynote address was delivered by Mark Zandi, Chief Economist, Moody’s Economy.com

Smith School Hosts Federal, State, Industry Leaders in Cybersecurity Forum

Each day, Google Maps transfers so much data it is measured in petabytes (that’s a digit with 15 zeros behind it). And that’s just the Maps platform of the Internet giant. With all of this data being transferred through cyberspace, security is a big issue. According to experts the focus should be on securing entire platforms, rather than individual servers with applications, to really secure the flow of data in the cyber supply chain. How to tackle this issue was the topic of discussion at the May 26 CyberMaryland Forum, held at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Smith School Hosts 7th Annual Wikler Finance Case Competition

The seventh annual Joseph M. Wikler Finance Case Competition took place on April 16, 2010, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The competition, which is open to juniors and seniors from the BMGT 440 Advanced Financial Management class, began with nine teams selected by the instructors of the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 sections.

UMD Business School Awarded $1.5M Grant from U.S. Department of Education

Smith School of Business announced it has received a $1.5 million four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to operate its Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). Funds are awarded in a national competition held every four years and the current grant will fund the center until 2014.

Smith MBA Students Win Supply Chain Case Competition at Rutgers

A talented team MBA students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business won the 2010 Rutgers MBA Supply Chain Case Competition held at Rutgers Business School, New Jersey. Vivek Srivastava, Jayraj Ganesh, Chia-Chia Chang, and Srivatsakumar Sarvepalli represented Smith School at the competition. Five other teams representing Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Lehigh University, University of Delaware, and Syracuse University competed for a cash prize of $750.
