Hosted by the Equity Center. Transformative Justice is an abolitionist political framework that provides skills for building community safety, healing and accountability. Participants will leave with concrete tools and skills on how to practice transformative justice in our everyday lives, this event will center queer and trans communities, but is open to all.

SASA will be moderating a discussion between 3-4 panelists as they recount their experiences as South Asian, queer and/or trans identifying individuals. Through this event, we hope to provide an intimate atmosphere to connect South Asian students with queer role models.

Maryland Smith and Hillel invite the UMD and Smith community to a conversation about antisemitism. Moderated by Ari Israel, executive director, Maryland Hillel, alumni panelists will explain microaggressions and share advice on how to help build a more inclusive campus community and workplace.

Participants will learn practical ways to boost the production of neurochemicals involved in motivation, the experience of a more positive mood and feelings of intimacy and connection. They will also review tangible techniques for de-stressing and managing trauma symptoms geared towards BIPOC communities, this event prioritizes Queer BIPOC communities.

Hosted by the Graduate Student Legal Aid Office. Identity documents are a major area of legal concern for transgender people, and different procedures and requirements for legal name changes and gender marker changes on birth certificates, driver’s licenses, and other documents vary from state to state. This workshop is designed to help you navigate the legal waters of changing your name and gender marker on federal and state documents.

When crises happen, we are often told “healing” is needed, but what would this actually look like? Many have experienced tremendous loss, pain and exhaustion not just over the past year but for generations. Though conversations about self-care and mental health have increased in higher education, many of us still feel burned out or disillusioned when it comes to the fight against racism and oppression. What practices might we need to adopt or leave behind to truly set ourselves on a pathway to healing?

In the last year, over 3,800 reports were made to Stop AAPI Hate. The recent surge of anti-Asian violence and hate, including the recent murders in Atlanta, has generated a lot of fears, anger, and anxiety within the Asian/Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the U.S. and globally. As an Asian international student, some of you may be scared, confused, and angry at what is happening and may want to talk to other international students about your experiences and concerns, as well as brainstorm what we can do to protect and advocate for ourselves and others.

The Wellesley Centers for Women hosts a panel discussion on the economic downturn—or "she-cession"—that was sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to disproportionately affect women, especially immigrant women and women of color. Panelists will discuss how the Biden-Harris administration can help support women in the workplace in order to overcome the challenges of the pandemic and move the needle forward on gender equity.

The UMD Disability Summit was established in 2016 as a forum for professionals, educators, academics, service providers, allies, and advocates focusing on disability issues to dialogue and collaborate across types of disability and institutions. The goal of the summit is to bring focus to and promote discussion of key current events and research impacting disability in society.
