Recent Grad Wins Inaugural Undergraduate Operations Research Prize from INFORMS
In November 2010, the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS) will award its inaugural Undergraduate Operations Research Prize to John Silberholz ’10. For Silberholz, who earned his B.S. degrees in computer science and math summa cum laude, the award is a culmination of the research and professional development relationships he has built with the Robert H. Smith School of Business through his undergraduate career.
Firms Pay More to High-Skill Foreign IT Professionals than to their U.S. Colleagues, Shows Management Insights Study
HANOVER, MD, May 13, 2010 – Contrary to public assertions, IT professionals in the U.S. who are not citizens actually earned more than their American colleagues from 2000-2005 and therefore did not depress the salaries of American citizens, according to the Management Insights feature in the current issue of Management Science, the flagship journal of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS®).
Smith Boasts Six INFORMS Fellows
Michael Fu, professor of management science, and Lawrence Bodin, professor emeritus of management science, have been named as fellows for 2008 by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). This singular honor, awarded to about 2 percent of the organizations 11,000 members, has now been held by six members of the Smith Schools decision and information technologies department.
