University of Marylands Business School Announces Executive MBA Scholarships for Entrepreneurs, Non-profit and Government Executives

College Park, Md. May 4, 2006 The University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business announced today that for the second year it will offer Executive MBA (EMBA) tuition scholarships. The partial-tuition scholarships are being provided to help executives from underrepresented industry areas including the government and non-profit sectors attain their career and leadership goals. The school will accept scholarship applications beginning May 15, 2006. Up to six scholarships will be awarded to students starting the schools EMBA program in November 2006. Scholarships will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Smith Federal Government EMBA Scholarship for managers and directors currently employed within a federal government agency
  • Smith State/local Government EMBA Scholarship for managers and directors currently employed within a state or local government agency
  • Smith Non-profit EMBA Scholarship for managers and directors that occupy a senior leadership position within a non-profit agency or association
  • Smith Entrepreneurship EMBA Scholarship for self-employed entrepreneurs running their own business or professional practice

Program participants from the government, non-profit and entrepreneur communities bring a valuable diversity and perspective that profoundly enriches the Smith Executive MBA experience, said Scott Koerwer, associate dean of professional programs and services. It is sometimes more difficult for applicants from these sectors to locate resources to assist in defraying tuition. We are pleased to continue the EMBA Scholarship Program for a second year as a means of encouraging talented individuals to join the program and seek career enhancement via a Smith EMBA.

Scholarship applications will be accepted until September 15, for the class beginning in November 2006. Applicants will be judged on merit and an essay. Applications interested in more information about the program or the Smith Schools EMBA scholarships, can contact Sharon Johnson, ph: 301-405-9559; or visitwww.rhsmith.umd.edu/emba

The Smith EMBA is an 18-month MBA program designed for senior-level executives with significant real world experience. Courses focus on leadership development as well as a systemic approach to management and team building skills. The Smith program follows an intense track meeting every other weekend that allows executives to earn an MBA without interrupting their careers.
