UMD Presents at International Conference on Corporate Crime and Regulation

Dec. 8-10, 2016, Sally Simpson, director of the Center for the Study of Business Ethics, Regulation and Crime (C-BERC) and professor of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Maryland, presented at the Max-Weber-Institute of Sociology in Heidelburg, Germany on "Application of Factorial Surveys in the Area of Corporate Crime Research".

The fight against corruption and corporate crime has entered a new phase. In many companies, compliance departments have developed over the last two decades. Governmental rules, as well as international guidelines, have become sharper and the sanctions more dramatic. However, the new regulation boom at the organizational, national and international level is not producing the results to the extent desired. The conference focused on empirical contributions made by international scientists and experts aiming for a successful connection between different analytical methods, as well as an exchange of experiences with different forms of prevention.

The University of Maryland’s Center for the Study of Business Ethics, Regulation and Crime (C-BERC) is a joint center of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the Robert H. Smith School of Business. For more information, visit www.rhsmith.umd.edu/cberc.
