The University of Maryland and its Robert H. Smith School of Business are launching two new undergraduate programs that will give highest-achieving students a big-picture view of business and industry in the changing workplace. A Groundbreaking Naming: Pyon-Chen Hall

The University of Maryland honored two trailblazing students on Friday at the dedication of Pyon-Chen Hall, the newest residence hall on campus and the first building to open in the Heritage Community. The building is named for Pyon Su, the first Korean student to receive a degree from an American institution, in 1891, and Chunjen Constant Chen, who in 1915 became the first Chinese student to enroll at the Maryland Agricultural College.

Maryland Smith Partners with Ghana’s Ashesi University for Faculty Development

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has recently established a partnership with Ashesi University, a private university in Accra, Ghana. This partnership will first involve a yearlong faculty development program, focused on enhancing Ashesi’s scholarship of teaching and learning. The initiative also taps Maryland Smith faculty in the top 2% of the most-cited scholars and scientists worldwide and ranked No. 16 in the University of Texas at Dallas’ Top Worldwide Business School Rankings.

New ‘Federal Risk Academy’ Certificate Program to Launch from Maryland Smith’s Center for Financial Policy

The Center for Financial Policy (CFP) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and Deloitte have jointly developed a new risk management training program they will deliver to government financial professionals beginning on Jan. 11, 2022. The certificate program, called the Maryland Smith Federal Risk Academy, will provide thought leadership, training, and special events to federal employees engaged in credit, banking, loans, grants, insurance and other market activities.
