Diversity Fireside Chat Features Bloomberg’s Head of Diversity and Inclusion

As Bloomberg L.P.’s Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Erika Irish Brown is on the front line to advance diversity in the workplace. She will talk frankly about her role and personal experiences with students, alumni, faculty and staff at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business when she joins Dean Alex Triantis for the Diversity Fireside Chat. The event is hosted by the Smith School’s just-launched Office of Diversity and Inclusion and will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 in Frank Auditorium.

Brown will share her experience as a current leader in cultural change at a Fortune 500 company. As the Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion, she leads Bloomberg’s efforts in further developing an inclusive community that aligns with the company’s business goals.

The annual Diversity Fireside Chat provides an engaging platform for distinguished business executives of color to share his or her story about diversity and inclusion. Brown’s candid one-on-one conversation with Triantis that will allow students to learn what Bloomberg L.P. is doing to create a more inclusive working environment in Corporate America.

Brown has nearly 20 years of banking, marketing, and consulting experience and was the Head of Diversity and Executive Recruiting at the Bank of America prior to her role at Bloomberg. She has worked at organizations including the U.S. Treasury, The Toigo Foundation, Morgan Stanley and BET. She completed her MBA at Columbia University’s Columbia Business School and received her BS in economics from the University at Albany, SUNY.

Beyond her business career, Brown is a mother of three boys and is actively involved in her community. Among involvement in other organizations, she is the vice chair of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, a community development organization that partners with local businesses and residents to improve the quality of life in parts of Central Brooklyn.
