Center for Social Value Creation Partners with AqVerium for Global Water Sustainability

The Smith School's Center for Social Value Creation partners with AqVerium, the first digital water bank, to drive water sustainability. This collaboration will promote education, research, and water-saving practices, aiming to achieve Water Positivity by 2030.

The Center for Social Value Creation at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business is thrilled to announce it will incubate AqVerium’s incubator. As the world’s first digital water bank and exchange for voluntary water offsets, AqVerium is dedicated to incentivizing water saving and recycling for all entities in the water use chain with AquaKredits – Water Credits & Water Sustainability Score.

AqVerium’s platform serves as a voluntary water footprint offsetting solution, enabling entities that are Net Water Negative to purchase and offset water saving, recycling, reuse, and reduction AquaKredits, thereby improving their Water Sustainability Score. The ultimate goal is to drive societal change and achieve Water Positivity by 2030. AqVerium’s partnerships with globally renowned and trusted leaders such as Bosch, Leo Burnett, Frost & Sullivan, Smart Water Network (SWAN), and Bureau Veritas, building huge credibility and trust among stakeholders, are all set to define new benchmarks in water sustainability & stewardship.

This collaboration with AqVerium is a significant milestone for the organization as it marks its first international foray. The Center’s commitment to educating, engaging, and empowering the community through thought-provoking dialogue, leadership, and hands-on experience aligns perfectly with AqVerium’s mission.

Together, we aim to:

1. Research and Develop Innovative Solutions: Combine our technological capabilities with the research prowess of the University of Maryland to explore new frontiers in water sustainability.

2. Promote Education and Awareness: Educate the next generation of leaders on the importance of water conservation and sustainability through joint programs and initiatives.

3. Facilitate Water Sustainability Practices: Encourage entities to adopt water-saving, recycling, reuse, and reduction practices through our voluntary offsetting platform.

4. Drive Societal Change: Achieve Water Positivity by 2030 through collaborative efforts and impactful actions.

Nima Farshchi, Director of the Center for Social Value Creation, shared, “The AqVerium initiative is a call for robust climate action. Its mission to revolutionize sustainability through water-centric strategies demands attention. AqVerium's integration of water into the core of climate discussions bridges policy gaps and accelerates progress. This initiative aligns with our philosophy, and we aim to revolutionize water sustainability through dialogue, leadership advocacy, and impactful youth engagement.”

Dr. Subramanya Kusnur, Founder & Executive Chairman of AqVerium, emphasized the urgency of the global water crisis, stating, “Immediate action is required. While climate discussions often focus on emissions, water, essential to life and sustainability, is frequently overlooked. The younger generation faces this crisis directly, making it imperative for students to lead impactful actions to ensure a water-secure future. This partnership underpins our strategic corporate-academia collaboration, with AqVerium emerging as a key solution that bridges the gap between climate action and water stewardship.”

AqVerium represents the union of economic viability and ecological responsibility. The time to act on water sustainability is now, and our visionary approach is a beacon of hope. The partnership with the Center for Social Value Creation will catalyze progress toward a future where water thrives, youth innovates, industries flourish sustainably, and the environment is protected.
