Business Honors Students Bond over Bowling

Business Honors Students Bond over Bowling

The Smith Undergraduate Career Fair was not the only event  had lined up for its students on Sept. 15, 2017. Business Honors students concluded their day at the Career Fair at the Business Honors team building session at Stamp. What better way to end a day of busy networking than to network with fellow peers over bowling and snacks. The students piled into TerpZone, a lounge in the Stamp building filled with bowling alleys, pool tables and more. “Events like these are just helping us build the business honors community,” co-chair Melissa Horovitz explained. This event was focused on getting these honors students more familiar with their classmates, as students mingled with their peers from across class years. It was a great opportunity for them to get to know one another outside of the classroom, as everybody cheered each other on while bowling. This is one of the many special events hosted by the honors community, as others include team building on the gym adventure course, various community service events, and even getting a professional photographer for LinkedIn pictures.

Co-chair Jacob Veitch explained his excitement for business honors, and how it has impacted his life in Maryland. “We have an incredibly brilliant group of students in the program, and learning alongside them throughout the years has only made me a better student,” Veitch stated.

The Business Honors program allows exceptional students with stellar academics to take their upper-level BMGT core course in smaller, seminar-style honors sections. This allows more in-depth exploration of business topics, as students often get into passionate, extended discussions. Some of the courses include finance, marketing, management, and business law. The honors section classes involve rigorous and active participation with an emphasis on critical thinking and reflective learning. Application to the program is competitive, but Melissa Horovitz encourages all students who meet the eligibility requirements to apply.
