Stacey Schreft is a macroeconomist with more than twenty years of experience across the public and private sectors. Her research interests include systemic financial and cybersecurity risk, operational resilience, digital assets and payments, and monetary policy. Notably, while in the private sector, her research resulted in a patented retirement investment strategy.

Dr. Schreft served as the Deputy Director of the Research and Analysis Center of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Financial Research (OFR) from 2015 to 2025. In that role, she oversaw a team that addressed data gaps in short-term funding markets, developed online tools for monitoring financial sector risk, established itself as a leader in financial stability research, and supported the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC). She also served on FSOC’s Deputies Committee, oversaw the OFR’s assessment of the state of the U.S. financial system, and brought data and analysis to monitoring financial system cyber risk while on detail to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Prior to joining the OFR, Dr. Schreft held senior leadership roles in the financial sector, first as director of investment strategy at a registered investment advisor, and later as chief economist and head of investment risk management at an institutional investment management firm. Within the Federal Reserve System, she served as an officer and economist at the Federal Reserve Banks of Kansas City and Richmond. She also held academic appointments at Michigan State University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She has a doctorate in economics from the University of Minnesota, and a bachelor's in economics from Smith College.
