Julie Pavlovsky joined the University of Maryland in 2010 and is a Senior Lecturer in the Finance Department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. She brings more than 15 years of professional experience, including over a decade on Wall Street in investment banking and equity research. At Smith, she teaches Financial Markets and Wall Street Finance and serves as Faculty Champion and advisor for the Wall Street Fellows program.
Professor Pavlovsky has also been an academic advisor and mentor to the University of Maryland Football Team Investment Club. In 2021, she designed and led discussions for a 20+ member student group focused on investing, financial markets, and careers in finance. She mentored students through the investment selection process and the presentations delivered to the entire football team and coaching staff—an audience of more than 200 people.
Before joining the Finance Department, Professor Pavlovsky worked as an MBA career advisor in the Smith School’s Office of Career Services. Earlier in her career, she was an Associate Analyst at Wells Fargo covering healthcare equities. Prior to Wells Fargo, she worked in the healthcare corporate finance group at ING Barings, advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, public equity offerings, and private placements. She began her career as a research analyst at Cambridge Associates, an investment management consulting firm.
Professor Pavlovsky earned her MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business and a BA in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland. Her teaching has been widely recognized. She received the Distinguished Faculty Award in 2017, awarded by the senior class to one faculty member in the business school. She has also received the prestigious Krowe Teaching Award for the 2017–2018 and 2021–2022 academic years in recognition of outstanding teaching. In addition, she was selected for the Philip Merrill Presidential Scholars Program in 2020 and is consistently ranked among the Smith School’s Top 10% of instructors for teaching excellence.
