UMD Smith AgentOps Challenge: An agentic AI competition
Final demo and judging:
The UMD Smith AgentOps Challenge invites student teams to design, build and test autonomous AI agents that solve real business, analytical and operational problems. Over four weeks, teams will prototype and deploy intelligent systems focused on measurable outcomes, cost-efficiency, reliability and safety.
This competition connects cutting-edge AI research with practical engineering and responsible innovation, preparing students for the next frontier of agentic AI.
What teams will do
- Design an intelligent agent to address a meaningful business or operational challenge
- Prototype and deploy the system under real-world constraints
- Demonstrate performance through live evaluation
- Present results and explain system performance, cost considerations and safety measures
How projects are evaluated
Teams will be evaluated through live testing using predefined criteria and a final presentation explaining additional dimensions of system success. Industry partners may include Walmart, Microsoft, Google and Amazon.
Organizers: Professors Manmohan Aseri and Jessica Clark
