Longbrake Pledges $1 Million to Maryland Smith
Educator, philanthropist and retired bank executive William Longbrake, DBA ’76, has pledged $1 million to support the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The unrestricted gift will provide flexibility to the school, where Longbrake serves as Executive-in-Residence and a member of the Board of Advisors.

Maryland Smith Students to Host Winterfest Bazaar Dec. 8 at Shady Grove
Maryland Smith students in the Business Management class at the Universities of Shady Grove are staging a Winter Bazaar Crafts Fair from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Universities at Shady Grove, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Building II, Rockville. The public is invited to participate in winter-themed activities and purchase unique products from local craft creators and businesses. Participants can get their gifts wrapped and decorate holiday cards, Santa hats, stockings and dreidels. The event also includes a prize raffle and kids can take photos with Santa.

Center for Global Business Awards Grant to PhD Candidate
The Robert H. Smith School of Business’ Center for Global Business is pleased to announce that Viktoriya Zotova has been awarded $4,000 to support her research. Research Professor and Center for Global Business Academic Director Kislaya Prasad will present Zotova, a PhD candidate in the Department of Accounting and Information Assurance, with the award at the Smith PhD Annual Awards Banquet on May 16, 2018. The award is funded in part by CIBER, a Title VI grant provided by the U.S. Department of Education.

All faculty, program directors, deans, department chairs, alumni, and students of the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business are invited to nominate deserving Smith School faculty members (i.e., tenured, tenure-track, clinical, Professor of the Practice, lecturer, adjunct, or PhD student) for one of several teaching awards. Nominations are due by March 16, 2018, and awards will be presented in May.
