University of Maryland Business School Professor Wins Top Marketing Award

College Park, Md. – June 24, 2008 – P.K. Kannan, Harvey Sanders Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, has won the John D.C. Little Award for co-authoring the paper "New Product Development Under Channel Acceptance," published in the March/April issue of Marketing Science. Kannan and his co-authors accepted the annually awarded prize and highest honor given by the College on Marketing of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) at the Marketing Science Conference on June 13.

Mattel Senior VP Speaks to Smith Undergraduates About Living Brands

Smith undergraduate students were treated to a presentation by Richard Dickson -- Mattel Brands senior vice president of marketing, media and entertainment, worldwide -- on Oct. 23, 2007 in Van Munching Hall. Dickson graduated from Maryland with a degree in consumer economics and was excited to be back. Prior to joining Mattel, Dickson spent over 15 years in the fashion and beauty industry working with top names in retail and design at Bloomingdales and Este Lauder.

Smith Boasts Six INFORMS Fellows

Michael Fu, professor of management science, and Lawrence Bodin, professor emeritus of management science, have been named as fellows for 2008 by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). This singular honor, awarded to about 2 percent of the organizations 11,000 members, has now been held by six members of the Smith Schools decision and information technologies department.
